Do Not Damage Your Ears!

For the post I'm making today, I figured I'd write a little bit about the importance of using hearing protection when you are using power tools in your shop or at work. A couple of weeks ago I was using several power tools including the vacuum cleaner after I was done.

I did not have my hearing protection with me and figured I'd be ok, boy was I wrong. Literally for about 3 hours I had intense ringing in the ears as well as some hearing loss. Damaged my ears is what I thought. I admit I was a bit scared.

At that very moment, I swore that I would never use any types of power tools without my ear plugs in again. The drill press and band saw alone problably were reaching 80 decibels. Its no secret that power tools are very loud. But when you are caught up in the moment and you have a deadline, you may just skip the phones and go right for the work.

Tools That Require Hearing Protection

  • Biscuit Joiners
  • Power Drills
  • Power Sanders
  • Band Saws
  • Vacuum Cleaners

It really isn't worth the risk of having long term damage. As you may know, there are many types of hearing protection available on the market. I usually just wear the rubber insert ones that go right into your ears.

They are cheap and work great. Some guys use hearing protection headphones. Those work pretty good too, but I find them too be a bit much and a bit clumbsy. Whatever type of hearing protection you use or are planning to use, just make sure that you use them every single time you are running machinery.

A Roofing Job Nextdoor

Ugh.  Woke up to the sound of aircompressors, hammers, nails being dropped, shingles being cut, wood being cut, ban saws.

Yep, thats right, on my day off, I was woken up because the neighbor is getting a new roof put on.  Ugh.  Seriously on my day off?  Why couldn't it be on a day that I was going into work early.

They Didn't Do A Good Job.

They didn't do a good job, i dont think.  They looked very unprofessional.  They left parts and pieces of the house, even tools all over the place for hours, even when they were not working.

Right now i'm looking out at this trailer that has been sitting there all day, with this junkie truck.  These guys just do not look professional!

Paving The Parking Lot At Work

Well, this is my first blog post, I will get to arranging this thing later on this week.  I am going to just be talking about normal every day activities, as my doctor suggested I start a small blog just to get things off my chest.

Well, today at work, we are getting ready to pave the parking lot.  The heavy equipment has arrived for scraping the parking lot up as well as the tank of blacktop.  They must be able to apply the stuff to the ground cold, because the tank was not heated at all.

So far they have ground up parts of the cracks which i thought they were just going to put filler or sealer on.  They are doing a great job.

I went through and took the bump stops out so that it would be out of the workers way.

Electrical Fire At Work

We also had an electrical fire at work.  One of the buscuit joiners wires was frayed and started a small little fire in the workshop.  I have to take a look at some reviews to get a new one.  Definately going to be buying a biscuit joiner online just because they are a lot cheaper than going to home depot etc.

Well, thats my first blog post, here's to many more!
